Spit to Manly

New Year's Eve in Sydney provided the perfect weather for walking from the Spit Bridge at Clontarf to Manly. The walk takes a few hours and is of medium grade. There are some signs along the walk to guide the way, but it helps to have a map. The Sydney Morning Herald have published a great guide book "Sydney's Best Harbour and Coastal Walks" that includes the Spit to Manly walk.

Sydney Botanic Gardens

Coming from Circular Quay and walking around the Opera House you arrive at the Sydney Botanic Gardens. An oasis in the city!

Sydney Icons

I played at being a tourist for an afternoon and explored the area around Circular Quay in the city. Above is the view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and a ferry at the wharf as seen from Circular Quay Railway Station.

Echo Point

Looking out from Echo Point at Katoomba in the Blue Mountains. This is one of the most popular tourist spots in the mountains and there are some fabulous bushwalks in the local area. Katoomba is a 90 minute drive or 2 hour train ride west from Sydney city.


These pictures were taken on one of the coldest days of the year - the temperature was about 5 degrees celsius. Katoomba's altitude is just over 1000m (which in Australian terms is very high!).

Sassafras Gully

Ferns alongside the walking track at Sassafras Gully in Springwood in the Blue Mountains (1 hour west of Sydney).

Cabramatta

Cabramatta is a suburb in Sydney's south-western city of Fairfield. There is a large Vietnamese population in the suburb and these pictures show statues and the entry to an open-air mall in one of the main streets.

Wollongong

Looking down at Wollongong from Sublime Point lookout. Wollongong is about a 1 hour drive or 1 1/2 hour train ride south from Sydney city.
